Choose your Claude model
Olvio runs on your own Anthropic API key, and you choose which Claude model it uses with that key. The model affects answer quality, speed and how much Anthropic charges you. You can change it at any time from the API Key page, on every plan.
The three models
The Claude model menu offers three options:
Claude Haiku 4.5 — fastest, lowest cost (recommended). This is the default.
Claude Sonnet 5 — balanced quality + cost
Claude Opus 5 — best quality, highest cost
Start with Haiku 4.5. If answers to more complex questions, such as detailed product comparisons, fall short of what you expect, try Sonnet 5 or Opus 5. Anthropic bills each request to your account at the price of the model used. See Anthropic's pricing page for current prices.
What the model is used for
Olvio uses the model you choose for:
Replies in the product page chat, including the checks that decide which product cards to show and which product an unanswered question is about.
Replies in Olvio Advisor (Growth and Scale plans).
Suggested questions on your product pages.
Translations of your widget text into the other languages your widget serves. Only English, French, German, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese are translated.
Translations of your custom suggested questions into the other languages your widget serves.
Theme names on the Customer question map.
Translation of question labels on the Unanswered tab of Conversations, when your storefront publishes more than one language. Labels are translated into your store's default language, or into English if that language isn't English, French, German, Spanish, Italian or Portuguese.

Change the model
Open API Key in the Olvio app menu.
In the Anthropic configuration section, pick a model from the Claude model menu.
Click Save in the save bar that appears.
Before saving, Olvio sends a very small test request to the new model with your saved key, to check that your Anthropic account can use it. Anthropic bills this request like any other. When the check passes, you see Settings saved, and new chat and Advisor replies use the new model within about a minute.
Saving doesn't rewrite the suggested questions already generated. Olvio replaces them with questions written by the new model as it refreshes them over the following days.
To undo a change you haven't saved yet, click Discard. If you haven't added a key yet, Save stays unavailable until you paste one; Olvio then checks your new key against the model you picked. See Connect your Anthropic (Claude) API key.
If the new model can't be saved
If the check fails, Olvio shows an error message and keeps the model you had saved. The menu keeps your new choice, so you can try again, pick another model or click Discard. Messages you may see include:
Anthropic rejected this model for your account… If the reason in the message says your account can't use this model, pick Claude Haiku 4.5. If it's about your account, for example a spend limit you set, fix it in the Claude Console: changing the model won't help.
Could not read your saved key. Re-enter it to switch models. Paste your key again in the API key field and click Save, or create a new key in Settings → API keys if you no longer have it.
Invalid Anthropic key. Please check it and try again. Anthropic didn't accept your saved key, for example because it was revoked, has expired or lacks permission. Check it in the Claude Console.

If you chose a model earlier
Olvio moved older model choices to the newer version of the same family. If you saved Claude Sonnet 4.6 or Claude Opus 4.7 before, Olvio now uses Claude Sonnet 5 or Claude Opus 5, and the Claude model menu shows that model. You don't need to save again. This update doesn't change a Claude Haiku 4.5 choice.
If you delete your API key
Deleting your key with Delete key doesn't reset your model choice. When you add a key again, the Claude model menu still shows the model you had selected. To replace or delete a key, see Connect your Anthropic (Claude) API key.
