Change the widget expert name, hook question, and avatar

Set the Expert name and Hook question on your product pages, and the avatar shown next to AI replies, from the Appearance page.

Change the widget expert name, hook question, and avatar

The Expert name, the Hook question, and the avatar give the Olvio widget your brand's voice. The Expert name and Hook question appear at the top of the widget on your product pages, and the avatar appears next to every AI reply in the chat. You set the Expert name and Hook question on WidgetProduct Detail Page, and the avatar on the Appearance page of the Olvio admin.

Where to find the settings

The Widget and Appearance pages appear in the Olvio app menu once you've chosen a plan (see Subscribe to a plan and start your free trial).

  1. For the Expert name and Hook question, open Widget in the Olvio app menu and click Configure on the Product Detail Page card.

  2. For the avatar, open Appearance in the Olvio app menu.

  3. Then open the Chat panel tab and find the Avatar card.

  4. When you change a setting, the save bar appears. Click Save to publish your changes to your storefront, or Discard to go back to your last saved settings.

On the Appearance page, the Live preview shows your changes before you save. Opening the Product page or Chat panel tab switches it to that view, and you can also switch with the Product page and Chat panel buttons above the preview. When the save succeeds, the message Changes saved appears. If your storefront still shows the old version, see My Appearance changes don't show on the storefront.

Expert name

The Expert name is the small line of capital letters above the Hook question, shown in your Accent color. The default is YOUR EXPERT. Pick a name that fits your store, for example OUR HERBALIST for a herbal supplement shop, YOUR STYLIST for fashion, or OUR SOMMELIER for wine.

You can type up to 40 characters, and the field shows a character count. The widget always displays the Expert name in capital letters, whatever case you type, and Olvio keeps the capitalization you typed.

Hook question

The Hook question is the larger headline under the Expert name. It sits above the suggested questions and the question field, and invites shoppers to ask about the product. The default is Any question about this product? A few alternatives:

  • Need help choosing?

  • Ask anything about this product

You can type up to 80 characters, and the field shows a character count. The same Hook question appears on every product page, so keep it general rather than naming one product.

Empty fields and default text

  • If you clear the Expert name or the Hook question and save, the widget doesn't hide it. It shows the default text instead, and the field shows the default again the next time you open the page.

  • Default text is shown in the widget's language when that language is English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, or Portuguese (for example, VOTRE EXPERT in French). In any other language, default text is shown in your store's default language when that language is one of these six, and in English otherwise. On Growth and Scale, default text you keep in a field is translated like your own text when you save (see the last section).

  • Text you type yourself is shown as you typed it, unless Olvio has translated it (see the last section).

Avatar

The avatar is the small image shown next to every AI reply in the chat panel, including while the AI is writing its reply. Olvio Advisor conversations use the same avatar (see What is Olvio Advisor?).

  1. On the Appearance page, open the Chat panel tab.

  2. In the Avatar card, click Upload image and choose a PNG, JPG, WebP, or GIF file of 200 KB or less.

  3. Adjust the Corner radius slider under the image if you want.

  4. Click Save.

As soon as you pick an image, the card says Your avatar is live on the widget. Your storefront only shows the new avatar after you click Save.

To change the image, click Replace image. To go back to the default avatar, click Remove. In both cases, click Save afterwards.

Avatar size, shape, and upload errors

  • The avatar is 32 × 32 pixels. An image that isn't square is cropped to fill it, so use a square image.

  • Corner radius goes from 0 px (square corners) to 16 px. The default, 16 px, makes the avatar a circle.

  • Transparent parts of the image show your Accent color.

  • If you don't upload an image, the avatar is a sparkle icon in your Accent foreground color on your Accent color background.

  • SVG files aren't accepted. The file picker shows only PNG, JPEG, WebP, and GIF files by default. If you pick or drop a file of another type, the avatar doesn't change and no error appears in the card. If the file is larger than 200 KB, the card shows Image too large (max 200KB).

To change these colors, see Customize widget colors. If Use custom colors for this block is checked on the Olvio — Product page block in the Shopify theme editor, the block's Accent and Accent foreground colors are used instead, including for the Expert name.

Automatic translation on Growth and Scale

On the Growth and Scale plans, your widget can serve more than one language. Olvio translates into six languages: English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese. Olvio only translates when your widget serves at least one of these six languages besides your store's default language. When this applies, saving a new Expert name or Hook question translates both into each language your widget serves among these six, including your store's default language when it is one of them. Shoppers see the translation that matches the widget's language on the page. If your store's default language isn't one of these six and your widget serves English, pages in your default language show the English translation.

  • Translations are made with Claude, using your own Anthropic API key and the Claude model you chose, so the usage is billed to your Anthropic account. See What uses your Anthropic API key, and what doesn't.

  • When this applies, saving also translates into any of these languages that doesn't have a translation yet, for example after you add a language, even if you didn't change the text.

  • When you upgrade to a plan that covers more languages and this then applies, Olvio translates your current Expert name and Hook question if a language your widget serves among these six doesn't have a translation yet, as long as your API key is connected. If shoppers still see an older version, change the Expert name or Hook question and click Save. To keep your original wording, put it back and click Save again.

  • If a translation can't be made, your changes are still saved. Without an API key no error is shown; with a key, a message says your changes couldn't be translated. If a language your widget serves has no translation, the page shows the Some languages are not translated yet banner, with a Translate now button once your key is connected. Languages that already had a translation keep showing your previous Expert name and Hook question, and this can include your default language. Languages that never had a translation show your text as you typed it.

  • When this applies and every language your widget serves among these six already has a translation, saving the same text again doesn't retry. Once your API key works, change the Expert name or Hook question and click Save. To keep your original wording, put it back and click Save again.

On the Starter plan, or whenever your widget serves only your store's default language, text you type is shown as you typed it. To see which languages your plan covers and how the widget picks one, see Multi-language: choose which languages your widget serves.
