Change the language of the Olvio admin

The Olvio admin appears in your Shopify admin language: see the supported languages, how to switch, and what isn't translated.

Change the language of the Olvio admin

The Olvio admin is available in English, French, German, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese. Olvio has no language setting of its own: it uses the language of your Shopify admin, so you change it from your Shopify profile.

How Olvio picks the language

When you open Olvio, Shopify tells it which language you use in your Shopify admin.

  • If it's one of the six supported languages, Olvio appears in that language. Regional variants of these languages show the main language.

  • If your Shopify admin is in any other language, Olvio appears in English.

Olvio keeps this language on every page. Most dates and numbers use the same language as the rest of the Olvio admin. Each staff member sees Olvio in the language of their own Shopify account.

Change the language

  1. From your Shopify admin, click your store name in the top bar.

  2. Click your profile.

  3. In the Preferred language section, click the Language drop-down menu, and then select a language.

  4. Click Save.

  5. Open Olvio again. It appears in the new language.

This changes the language for your own account only. It doesn't change the language of your storefront.

What isn't translated

  • Some messages, mostly error messages, appear in English whatever your admin language. In German, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese, a few labels also appear in English.

  • Conversations are shown in the language used in the chat. They aren't translated into your admin language.

  • Themes on the Customer question map are named in your store's default language. The questions themselves are shown as shoppers asked them.

  • On the Unanswered tab, new questions appear as the AI wrote them, usually in the shopper's language. If your store is in several languages, Olvio regularly translates the questions into your store's default language. Clicking Reorganize does it right away.

  • On the Questions page, the questions the AI writes are shown in your store's default language. Questions you write yourself are shown as you wrote them.

When your store's default language isn't one of the six supported languages, themes on the Customer question map are named in English. If your store is in several languages, questions on the Unanswered tab are translated into English too.

The widget language is separate

Your admin language has no effect on your storefront. The widget follows the language of the page the shopper is viewing, as long as it's one of the languages your widget serves (set by your plan and in the Languages card on the Advanced tab of Appearance). To learn more, see Multi-language: choose which languages your widget serves and The widget or the AI uses the wrong language.
