Install Olvio on your Shopify store
Olvio is a Shopify app that you install from the Shopify App Store. Installation goes through Shopify's standard install screen: you don't create a separate Olvio account or password.
How to install
Open the Olvio listing on the Shopify App Store and click Install.
On Shopify's Install app screen, review the access Olvio requests, then click Install.
Shopify opens Olvio inside your Shopify admin. To come back to it later, open Apps in your Shopify admin and select Olvio.
The Olvio admin opens in the language of your Shopify admin when it's English, French, German, Spanish, Italian or Portuguese, and in English for any other language. For details, see Change the language of the Olvio admin.
Choose a plan to unlock Olvio
Until you choose a plan, every page of the Olvio admin takes you to the Plans page, and the app menu only shows Olvio.
If your store can still get the free trial, the page reads Start your 14-day free trial and the plan buttons read Start 14-day trial. You aren't charged until the trial ends.
If you've already used your free trial, the page reads Choose your plan and the buttons read Subscribe to Starter, Subscribe to Growth or Subscribe to Scale. Charges start as soon as you approve the subscription in Shopify.
A plan that includes fewer products than your catalog is grayed out, and its button reads Catalog too large.
After you approve the subscription in Shopify, you come back to the Plans page. It shows the Activating your subscription… banner while Shopify confirms, then the page heading changes to You're on the Growth plan (with the name of your plan). If it takes longer than expected, that banner changes to Activation is taking longer than expected with a Refresh status button. See Plans page problems: activation stuck or 'Catalog too large'. The full app menu appears once the plan is active. For details, see Subscribe to a plan and start your free trial and Compare Starter, Growth, and Scale plans.
What Olvio can access
Olvio requests five read-only access scopes. It has no permission to edit your products, orders or customers.
read_products: to import your products and collections, so Olvio can answer questions about them.read_orders: to see which orders follow a conversation with Olvio, so your Dashboard can show the revenue attributed to Olvio. For every order placed on your online store while you have a plan (including the free trial), Olvio keeps the order ID, the product IDs, the order total and the currency, plus an anonymous session ID when the order follows a conversation. It doesn't keep the customer's name, email, phone number or address.read_themes: to check that your published theme supports the Olvio block (Online Store 2.0), and, on Growth and Scale, whether the Olvio Advisor app embed is turned on.read_locales: to read the languages published on your storefront, so the widget can work in the right language.read_metaobjects: to read the content of metaobjects referenced in your product metafields, so Olvio sees that content rather than a bare reference.
What Olvio adds to your store
Installing Olvio doesn't change your theme, products or orders. The widget appears on your product pages only after you add the Olvio — Product page block to your product template in the theme editor.
Once you use the app, Olvio writes two things:
Your widget settings. When your plan becomes active, and each time you save settings such as Appearance or API Key, Olvio saves a copy of your widget settings in metafields that belong to the app. The Olvio blocks in your theme use these settings to display the widget.
A cart attribute named
_olvio_session. Once Olvio has answered a shopper's message, the widget adds this attribute, with an anonymous session ID, to the shopper's cart, and Shopify copies it onto the order. This is how Olvio links an order to a conversation. It isn't meant to be shown to shoppers, but depending on your theme and notification templates it may appear on the cart page or in order emails.
What Olvio stores about your store
The first time you open Olvio, it creates a record for your store linked to your .myshopify.com domain, together with the access token Shopify issues to the app. Olvio's database is hosted by Cloudflare in the Western Europe region. Olvio's search index, its cache, the computation of search data and the app itself run on Cloudflare's global network, which isn't restricted to the European Union.
Olvio (Topicimes) staff can view your store's data through an internal, read-only console. It shows the same dashboards, conversation lists, transcripts (with the linked order, where there is one) and question map as your Olvio admin, plus account and operational information such as your plan, install date, attributed revenue and technical health. The console is used only for support, incident diagnosis and service quality control. Access is limited to people Topicimes authorizes, protected by single sign-on, and every access is logged.
About 48 hours after you uninstall Olvio, Olvio permanently deletes your store's data from its database and search index. For details, see What data Olvio stores about your store, Where is my data hosted? and What happens to my data when I uninstall Olvio.
What to do next
The first time you open the Olvio admin with an active plan, Olvio starts importing your Shopify catalog in the background. The Dashboard, the page that opens when you click Olvio in the app menu, shows the progress and updates automatically when the import is done.
Then follow the Get Olvio ready for your first customer card on the Dashboard:
Add your Anthropic API key. Olvio runs on your own Anthropic Claude API key. See Connect your Anthropic (Claude) API key.
Personalize your AI. Describe your business on the AI Setup page. See Configure your AI Setup.
Personalize the widget appearance. Open the Appearance page. See Customize widget colors.
Add the Olvio block to your product page. This requires an Online Store 2.0 theme. See Add the Olvio widget to your product pages.
Each step is checked off automatically. The block step is checked off the first time the widget loads on an active product that Olvio has already imported. If the catalog import is still running, open the product page again a few minutes after it finishes. See Your setup guide: get Olvio ready for your first customer.
If your published theme uses the older Online Store 1.0 format, the Dashboard shows Your theme is not compatible with Olvio's widget. See Online Store 1.0 not supported — what to do.
If you need help at any step, use the support chat in the Olvio admin. It's available on every page, including Plans. See Contact us and support hours.
