Cannot find the Olvio block in the theme editor

The block is called Olvio — Product page and only shows on product templates, under Apps. Where to look and what to check.

Cannot find the Olvio block in the theme editor

The Olvio widget is an app block called Olvio — Product page. The Shopify theme editor only offers it on product templates, under Apps in the Add section and Add block menus. If you can't find it, start from the button in Olvio, then work through the checks below.

Start from the setup guide in Olvio

Olvio can open the theme editor with the block already in place:

  1. Open Olvio in your Shopify admin. Once you've chosen a plan, Olvio opens on the Dashboard. Find the Get Olvio ready for your first customer card.

  2. On the step Add the Olvio block to your product page, click Open theme editor. The theme editor of your published theme opens in a new tab on your default product template, with the Olvio block added in a new Apps section.

  3. Move the section to where you want the widget to appear.

  4. Click Save. The block is only added to your theme once you save. If some products use another product template, add the block there too (see check 1).

The button opens the theme editor only until the widget first loads on one of your product pages for an active product that Olvio has already imported. After that, it becomes View conversations, even if the block isn't saved in your published theme. The card also disappears once every step is done, or after you click Hide. In those cases, add the block from the theme editor and use the checks below.

1. You're not on a product template

The block is only available on product templates, because the widget answers questions about the product on the page. It isn't offered on your home page, collection pages or other templates.

Open the page menu at the top of the editor (it shows Home page) and select Products > Default product, or the product template you want to edit.

Changes to a template apply to every product that uses it. If some of your products use another product template (chosen in the product's Theme template setting in your Shopify admin), open that template and add the block there as well.

2. You're looking under App embeds

Olvio offers two different items in the theme editor:

  • Olvio — Product page is an app block. It's the widget on your product pages, and you add it with Add section or Add block.

  • Olvio Advisor is an app embed, listed under App embeds. It has no settings and doesn't add the widget to your product pages. It opens Olvio Advisor when a shopper clicks an Advisor link, on the Growth and Scale plans. See Turn on the Olvio Advisor and add Advisor links to your store.

Turning on Olvio Advisor doesn't replace the product page block. To add the widget, use Add section or Add block in the sidebar, as described in the next check.

3. The section doesn't accept app blocks

Add block only lists Olvio inside sections that accept app blocks. This depends on your theme, and some sections don't accept them. If Olvio isn't in the Add block menu of the section you picked, add it as its own section instead:

  1. On your product template, click Add section in the sidebar.

  2. Under Apps, select Olvio — Product page. You can also type Olvio in the search field.

  3. Drag the new section to where you want the widget to appear.

  4. Click Save.

4. Your theme uses Online Store 1.0

App blocks need an Online Store 2.0 theme. On an older Online Store 1.0 theme, the Olvio block can't be added from the theme editor, whatever template you select.

Until the widget first loads on an active product that Olvio has already imported, Olvio also checks your published theme. If it finds an Online Store 1.0 theme, the Dashboard shows the warning Your theme is not compatible with Olvio's widget, with a Learn how to upgrade your theme button that opens Shopify's help. App embeds work on both kinds of theme, so you may still see Olvio Advisor under App embeds on an Online Store 1.0 theme.

The warning can be missing on some visits, and Olvio stops checking once the widget has loaded, so don't rely on it alone. It can also stay on the Dashboard for up to a day after you switch to an Online Store 2.0 theme. To check your theme's version yourself, see Online Store 1.0 not supported — what to do.

5. You're editing another theme, or Olvio isn't installed

  • A theme you haven't published. Open theme editor always opens your published theme. To prepare another theme, go to Online Store in your Shopify admin, find that theme, click Edit theme, and add the block there.

  • A theme you just published. After you publish a different theme, open its product template and check that the Olvio — Product page block is there, and that Olvio Advisor is on under App embeds if you use it. Add whatever is missing.

  • Olvio isn't installed. If Olvio doesn't appear under Apps in either menu, go to Settings → Apps in your Shopify admin and check that Olvio is there. If it isn't, reinstall it from the Shopify App Store listing, then choose a plan again on the Plans page. Uninstalling Olvio resets your plan. The Plans page shows whether your free trial is still available.

The block is added, but the preview is empty or incomplete

If Olvio — Product page is in the sidebar but the widget doesn't look complete in the preview, check these:

  • Suggested questions not ready yet. When your API key is saved but Olvio has no suggested questions ready for this product, for example the first time it's shown, the widget appears only once Olvio has written them, which can take a few seconds. Wait a moment: the widget then appears on its own.

  • No plan chosen. The widget shows nothing, in the theme editor or on your storefront, until your store has a plan. Until then, the Olvio admin opens on the Plans page. See Subscribe to a plan and start your free trial.

  • No Anthropic API key. The widget shows its expert name, hook question and question field, but no suggested questions, and the chat can't answer. See Connect your Anthropic (Claude) API key. If a key is saved but suggested questions still don't appear, see Suggested questions don't appear on my product pages.

The Hide the widget on languages Olvio doesn’t cover setting never hides the block in the theme editor, whatever language you preview. It only applies to your storefront. See Multi-language: choose which languages your widget serves.

If the widget shows in the theme editor but not on your live product pages, see The widget isn't showing on my storefront.

What the block looks like once added

Once added, Olvio — Product page appears in the sidebar, in the section where you placed it. Select it to open its settings:

  • Color overrides: check Use custom colors for this block to replace the colors from the Olvio Appearance page with the block's Accent, Accent foreground, Background, Surface, Border, Text and Muted text colors.

  • Typography override: check Use custom font size for this block to use the block's Base font size, from 12 to 20 px (14 px by default).

Leave both unchecked to use your Appearance settings. See Add the Olvio widget to your product pages.
