What is Olvio Advisor?

A guided shopping chat on Growth and Scale: shoppers open it from a link, answer a few questions and get product recommendations.

What is Olvio Advisor?

Olvio Advisor is a guided shopping chat. A shopper clicks an Advisor link to your store, the AI asks a few questions with clickable answers, then recommends products that fit. Olvio Advisor is available on the Growth and Scale plans.

How an Advisor conversation works

  1. A shopper clicks a link to your store whose URL ends with #olvio_advisor=chip:<chipId>. The chat panel opens on that page.

  2. The label of the matching starter chip is sent as the shopper's message, unless the Advisor offers to resume an earlier conversation (see below).

  3. The AI asks one question at a time. The possible answers appear as buttons above the input, and the shopper can also type a reply.

  4. When it knows enough, the AI recommends up to 4 products as cards under its reply. It's instructed to confirm every axis you marked High criticality first.

If no product matches everything the shopper asked for, the AI is instructed to show the one or two closest products and say which criterion they miss. If it finds nothing suitable, it's instructed to say so and offer to widen the search.

The Advisor uses the same chat panel as the widget on your product pages, with the colors and font you set on the Appearance page. Its header shows your shop name.

How it differs from the chat on your product pages

  • The widget on your product pages starts from the product the shopper is viewing. The shopper picks a suggested question or asks their own.

  • Olvio Advisor has no button of its own on your store. It opens only from an Advisor link, on any page of your store, and follows the conversation axes you set for that chip.

Which plans include it

Olvio Advisor is included in the Growth and Scale plans. The Plans page lists Advisor on both. See Compare Starter, Growth, and Scale plans.

On Starter, the Advisor page in the Olvio admin shows the banner Advisor is available on Growth and above with a See plans button, and you can't add, edit or remove chips.

If you move from Growth or Scale to Starter, the Advisor stops opening on your store. Your chips are kept, so they work again when you move back to Growth or Scale.

If you uninstall Olvio, the Advisor stops right away, and your chips are deleted with the rest of your data about 48 hours later. See What happens to my data when I uninstall Olvio.

What you need before it works

  1. A Growth or Scale plan.

  2. Your Anthropic API key saved on the API Key page. Without a key, every Advisor reply shows Sorry, an error occurred. Please try again. See Connect your Anthropic (Claude) API key.

  3. At least one starter chip on the Advisor page, ideally with conversation axes. See Create Advisor starter chips and conversation axes.

  4. The Olvio Advisor app embed turned on in your published theme, in the theme editor under App embeds. If it's off while you have chips, the Advisor page shows Advisor isn't visible on your storefront yet with an Open Theme Editor button.

  5. Advisor links on your store. On the Advisor page, click Edit on a chip, copy the URL hash from the Direct link section and add it to the end of a link to your store that doesn't already contain a #, such as a menu item, a button or a link in an email. See Turn on the Olvio Advisor and add Advisor links to your store.

What the AI uses

Olvio Advisor reads these settings from the AI Setup page:

  • Business description and Categories / Keywords.

  • Your most recent Knowledge files and External web pages.

  • Conversation rules. Your Do and Don't rules take priority over the Advisor's default instructions, but they can't change how it shows answer buttons and product cards.

To choose products, it searches your synced catalog for products that fit the conversation and reads the custom.olvio_knowledge notes of the products it considers. See Add product-specific notes with the custom.olvio_knowledge metafield.

Olvio Advisor doesn't use the pages, blog articles and policies that Olvio reads automatically from your store for the chat on your product pages. See How Olvio reads your store pages, blog articles and policies. Pages you add under External web pages are still used, including pages of your own store.

The Advisor is instructed not to put links in its replies: shoppers open products from the cards.

Product cards and add to cart

Advisor cards follow the settings in the Add to cart in chat card on the Advanced tab of Appearance. With Enable add to cart in chat on, shoppers can choose a variant and add it to their cart from the card. Hide free variants (price 0) applies to Advisor cards too. See Show product cards and let shoppers add to cart from the chat.

Language and cost

The Advisor replies in the language of the page when your widget serves that language. Otherwise, it replies in your store's default language, except on a page in a language Olvio doesn't support, such as Albanian, where it replies in English if your widget serves English. See Multi-language: choose which languages your widget serves.

Unlike the chat on your product pages, the Advisor is instructed to keep that language even if the shopper writes in another one.

If Hide the widget on languages Olvio doesn’t cover is checked in the Languages card on the Advanced tab of Appearance, Advisor links do nothing on pages in a language your widget doesn't serve.

Advisor replies use the Claude model you select on the API Key page, and Anthropic bills your account for them. See What uses your Anthropic API key, and what doesn't.

What the shopper sees over time

While the Advisor is open, the conversation follows the shopper to other pages of your store in the same browser tab for a while after their last message.

Closing the panel clears the conversation from the screen. If the shopper opens an Advisor link again later, the Advisor can offer to pick up where they left off with You already have a conversation with our assistant. Would you like to resume it or start over? and two buttons: Continue and Start over. Continue brings back the earlier conversation. Start over sends the chip's label and starts a new one.

Where Advisor conversations appear

  • On the Conversations page, under All and on the Advisor tab. Chats from your product pages are on the Product page tab.

  • They're deleted once they're older than your plan's conversation history (90 days on Growth, 365 on Scale), or older than 30 days if your store moves to Starter or no longer has a plan.

  • Orders from shoppers who had an Advisor conversation are attributed to Olvio the same way as product page chats. See How conversion attribution works.

  • They count in the numbers on your Dashboard, such as Engaged visitors and Revenue with Olvio. See Read your Olvio dashboard: revenue, rates and date ranges.

  • They count toward the 100 conversations the Customer question map needs before it appears, but the questions asked in them aren't shown on the map or on the Unanswered tab. Those only use product page chats.

Limits at a glance

  • Up to 5 starter chips.

  • Up to 30 conversation axes per chip.

  • Up to 8 allowed values per axis. Shoppers see at most 6 answer buttons per question.

  • Up to 80 characters for a chip label or an axis label.

  • Up to 4 product cards per recommendation.
