Read your Olvio dashboard: revenue, rates and date ranges

What each number on the Olvio Dashboard means, how orders are credited to Olvio, and how date ranges and comparisons work.

Read your Olvio dashboard: revenue, rates and date ranges

The Dashboard is the home page of the Olvio admin. It shows how shoppers use Olvio on your product pages and how many orders followed a conversation, for the date range you choose.

Open the Dashboard

In your Shopify admin, click Olvio in the app menu. The Dashboard is the first page that opens.

The Dashboard is available once you've chosen a plan. Until then, Olvio opens the Plans page instead. See Subscribe to a plan and start your free trial.

Olvio only records shopper activity and orders while your store has a plan, including during the free trial. Days without a plan show zero.

What Olvio counts

The numbers are built from these building blocks:

  • Widget views: the Olvio widget appearing on a product page. The formulas on the Dashboard call them impressions.

  • Conversations: a shopper sends a message, typed or by clicking a suggested question, and Olvio replies. An Olvio Advisor conversation (Growth and Scale plans) starts as soon as a shopper opens an Advisor link: Olvio sends the label of the link's starter chip as their first message and replies. If the shopper already has an Advisor conversation in progress in that browser tab, Olvio sends the label into it instead. Otherwise, if Olvio finds an earlier Advisor conversation for that shopper, it asks them to Continue it or Start over. Advisor conversations count too, even on a page without the product-page widget, where no widget view is recorded. See What is Olvio Advisor?

  • Sessions: when a shopper sends their first message, Olvio gives them an anonymous session ID. It links their conversations to their add-to-carts and orders without identifying the shopper. A session isn't a single visit: Olvio reuses the same ID when it's still on the shopper's cart or saved in their browser, so an order placed days after a conversation can still be credited. Olvio saves the ID in the browser for later visits only when analytics is allowed for that shopper: they accepted it through your store's consent mechanism, or your store doesn't require consent in their region. Otherwise it isn't saved for later visits. Olvio doesn't delete an ID saved earlier if the shopper later changes that choice. See What data Olvio collects about your shoppers.

  • Add-to-carts: a product added to the cart on a product page that shows the widget, from Olvio's add-to-cart button or from any other button that adds the product without loading a new page, such as your theme's. Add-to-carts that load a new page to add the product aren't counted.

  • Orders: orders placed through your online store. Point of sale orders, draft orders and orders from other sales channels aren't counted.

An order's amount is its total after discounts, including shipping and taxes, in your store currency. Olvio records each order when it's created, so later refunds, cancellations and edits don't change the Dashboard.

The nine numbers

Hold your pointer over a number's title to see its definition and formula. Rates are shown with two decimals, and amounts in your store currency.

Number

What it shows

Revenue with Olvio

The total of your orders with Olvio in the date range. It's the large card with the detailed chart.

Add-to-cart rate with Olvio

Among shoppers who had a conversation, the share who added a product to cart within 7 days of it, or placed an order with Olvio.

Conversion rate with Olvio

Among shoppers who had a conversation, the share who placed an order with Olvio.

Engagement rate

Engaged visitors divided by widget views.

Your add-to-cart rate

Add-to-carts divided by widget views, counting every visitor, not only those who chatted.

Your conversion rate

All online store orders in the date range divided by widget views, counting every visitor, not only those who chatted.

Engaged visitors

The number of shoppers whose conversation started in the date range. Each session counts once, even with several conversations.

Average order value

Revenue with Olvio divided by Orders with Olvio. It isn't your store-wide average.

Orders with Olvio

The number of orders with Olvio in the date range.

The add-to-cart or order can fall in your date range while the conversation behind it can be up to 7 days before or after it, outside the range. On short ranges such as Today or Yesterday, Add-to-cart rate with Olvio and Conversion rate with Olvio can therefore read very high, even above 100%, or very low. Longer ranges give steadier numbers.

How orders are credited to Olvio

An order counts as an order with Olvio when a conversation with Olvio started in the same session within 7 days before or after the order. A conversation that starts after the order only counts if the shopper had already chatted with Olvio before buying. The 7-day window is fixed; there's no setting to change it.

To make the link, Olvio adds an attribute named _olvio_session to the shopper's Shopify cart once it has replied to their first message. Shopify copies it to the order at checkout, where you can see it.

The order can contain any product, not only the one the shopper asked about. It's counted on the day it was placed. For more detail, see How conversion attribution works and Conversion rate with Olvio vs your baseline.

Choose a date range

The first button above the numbers shows the dates you're viewing. By default, that's the last 30 days.

Click it, then choose a preset in the left column. Some presets open a list of options:

  • Today or Yesterday.

  • Last: Last 7 days, Last 30 days, Last 90 days, Last 365 days, Last week, Last month, Last quarter, Last 12 months or Last year. Last week, month, quarter and year are the previous full calendar periods. Last 12 months covers the same days as Last 365 days.

  • Period to date: Week to date, Month to date, Quarter to date or Year to date.

  • Black Friday Cyber Monday: one option per year, for example BFCM 2025, covering the Friday after US Thanksgiving to the following Monday. It lists the two previous years, and this year once Black Friday has arrived.

  • Quarters: This quarter, Last quarter, or one of last year's quarters, for example Q1 2025.

You can also select the first and last day on the calendar, or type them in the two date fields as YYYY-MM-DD. Whichever way you pick the dates, a preset included, click Apply to update the Dashboard, or Cancel to close the picker without changes.

  • Last week and Week to date start on Monday.

  • Days after today can't be selected.

  • A range can cover up to 366 days. If you apply a longer one, the Dashboard shows the last 30 days instead.

  • Days start and end in your Shopify store's time zone.

Compare with another period

The second button sets what the numbers are compared with:

  • Previous period, the default: the same number of days, just before your range.

  • Previous year: the same dates, one year earlier. Olvio doesn't keep widget views, add-to-carts or orders that long (see below), so on every plan this comparison has none of them, and most numbers show no badge or a very large change.

  • No comparison: hides every comparison.

With a comparison on, the button reads Compared to followed by the comparison dates. Each number then shows a green ▲ for an increase or no change, or a red ▼ for a decrease, with the change in percent.

The change is relative to the earlier value: a rate that goes from 2.00% to 3.00% shows ▲ 50.0%, not one percentage point. There's no badge when the earlier value is zero and the current one isn't.

On the charts, the comparison period is a lighter dashed line. On a one-day range such as Today, each chart shows a dot instead of a line, and the comparison dot is lighter. Point to a chart to see each day's value and the matching day of the comparison period. The Revenue with Olvio chart also shows dates along the bottom and, below it, your date range and, when a comparison is on, the comparison range. A chart whose values are all zero, in your range and in any comparison period, shows a flat dotted line instead of lines or dots, with no dates along the bottom and no values when you point to it. The date ranges below the Revenue with Olvio chart still show.

Why your numbers differ from Shopify Analytics

  • Olvio only records widget views and add-to-carts on product pages that show the widget, while Shopify Analytics covers every page of your store. Add-to-carts from themes that load a new page to add the product aren't counted either.

  • Olvio counts widget views, not visitors. Views are usually recorded without identifying the shopper, even after they've chatted, so a shopper who opens three different product pages counts as three views.

  • Your conversion rate divides all your online store orders by widget views, so it includes orders from shoppers who never saw the widget.

  • Only online store orders count, and changes made to an order after it's created aren't reflected.

How far back your data goes

Olvio deletes older data automatically, so the oldest days of a date range can show lower numbers than what really happened.

Conversations are kept 30 days on Starter, 90 days on Growth and 365 days on Scale. Widget views, add-to-carts and orders are deleted after 90 days on every plan. Every number is built from this data.

Days more than 90 days ago show no widget views, add-to-carts or orders on any plan, and so no revenue or orders with Olvio either. Presets such as Last 365 days, Last year, last year's quarters under Quarters, or a Black Friday Cyber Monday from an earlier year are affected. On Scale, conversations from those days are still kept, so on a date range that reaches back more than 90 days, Engagement rate reads higher, and Add-to-cart rate with Olvio and Conversion rate with Olvio read lower, than what really happened.

When a date range reaches further back than your plan keeps conversations, its older days show fewer conversations and fewer orders with Olvio. On Starter, for example, Last 90 days only has conversations for about its most recent 30 days. Widget views are kept longer than that, so on such a range Engagement rate reads lower than what really happened. Even a range as long as your plan keeps conversations, such as Last 30 days on Starter, can show fewer orders with Olvio in its first few days, because the conversation an order is credited to can have started up to 7 days before the order and may already be deleted.

The comparison needs this data too. A Previous year comparison has no widget views, add-to-carts or orders left on any plan, and no conversations or almost none either, because even Scale keeps conversations for only 365 days. Previous period covers the same number of days just before your range, so it reaches twice as far back. On Starter, the default view compares the last 30 days with the 30 days before them, and almost all conversations from those earlier days are already deleted. The numbers that depend on conversations, including Revenue with Olvio and Orders with Olvio, can then show no badge or a very large change. With Last 90 days, most numbers can do the same on every plan: its comparison period has almost no widget views, add-to-carts or orders left, and on Starter and Growth no conversations or almost none. Choose a shorter range, or No comparison.

Other cards on the Dashboard

Depending on your store, these can appear above the numbers:

  • Get Olvio ready for your first customer: your setup guide. It disappears when every step is done, or when you click Hide. See Your setup guide: get Olvio ready for your first customer.

  • Your theme is not compatible with Olvio's widget: your theme uses the older Online Store 1.0 format. See Online Store 1.0 not supported — what to do.

  • A product limit warning, for example You're over the Starter product limit: your catalog has more products than your plan includes. Olvio still answers questions on every product, and the button opens the Plans page. See Compare Starter, Growth, and Scale plans.

  • Your catalog status: Setting up your product catalog or Catalog sync in progress while Olvio imports your products, then a Catalog synced badge with your product count (and collection count, if you have collections) and a Resync now button, available once a day. No products synced yet, Catalog sync failed or Some products aren't fully indexed appears when something needs your attention. See Resync your product catalog.

Shopify may also show its own window inviting you to review Olvio on the Shopify App Store. You can close it.
