What is Olvio?

An AI shopping agent for your Shopify product pages: what shoppers see, what it answers from, and how to set it up.

What is Olvio?

Olvio is an AI shopping agent for your Shopify product pages. It answers shoppers' questions about your products using your catalog and the information you give it, and it can recommend other products from your store. Olvio runs on Anthropic's Claude models with your own Anthropic API key, and Anthropic bills you directly for that usage.

What shoppers see

Olvio appears as a block on your product pages. The block shows a small label (YOUR EXPERT by default), a title (Any question about this product? by default), up to 2 suggested questions and a text field.

  • When a shopper types a question or clicks a suggested question, the conversation opens in a chat panel that slides in from the right (full screen on phones and on tablets in portrait mode).

  • Olvio can recommend other products from your catalog as product cards in the chat.

  • The chat panel shows an Add to cart button for the product the shopper is viewing (it reads Sold out and can't be clicked when the selected variant is unavailable). If you turn on Enable add to cart in chat, the product cards Olvio recommends also let shoppers pick an available variant and add it to their cart without leaving the chat.

  • The chat always shows the notice You're chatting with an AI. You can't remove it.

Where Olvio's answers come from

Olvio imports your Shopify catalog automatically and answers from:

  • Your products: descriptions, variants, collections and most metafields (review and rating metafields, for example, are ignored).

  • Your store's pages, blog articles and policies.

  • What you enter on the AI Setup page: Business description, Categories / Keywords, Knowledge files, External web pages and Conversation rules.

  • Product-specific notes you write in a custom.olvio_knowledge product metafield, which you create in your Shopify admin. See Add product-specific notes with the custom.olvio_knowledge metafield.

The first import starts when you open the Olvio admin after choosing a plan. While it runs, the Dashboard (click Olvio in the app menu) shows Setting up your product catalog, then Catalog sync in progress. The import typically takes 2 to 10 minutes, longer for large catalogs. Olvio can answer about a product once it has been imported, and later product and collection edits sync automatically. See What sources Olvio reads.

Languages

The widget's own text, such as buttons, placeholders and notices, is available in English, French, German, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese. Olvio's replies start in the storefront language when your widget serves it, otherwise in your store's default language. On a page in a language Olvio doesn't support, they start in English if your widget serves English. In the product page chat, replies switch if the shopper writes in another language.

How many storefront languages Olvio serves depends on your plan: your store's default language on Starter, your default language plus one more language you can choose on Growth, and every language your storefront publishes that Olvio can serve on Scale. If you'd rather not show the widget on pages in a language Olvio doesn't serve (outside your plan's allowance, or a language Olvio doesn't support), turn on Hide the widget on languages Olvio doesn’t cover in the Advanced tab of the Appearance page. See Multi-language: choose which languages your widget serves.

Olvio Advisor

On the Growth and Scale plans, you can also offer the Olvio Advisor: a guided chat that shoppers open from a link on your store. The AI asks a few targeted questions, then recommends products. You set it up on the Advisor page, and the Olvio Advisor app embed must be turned on in your theme. See What is Olvio Advisor?

What you find in the Olvio admin

Open these pages from the app menu in your Shopify admin:

  • Olvio: your Dashboard, with Revenue with Olvio, conversion and add-to-cart rates, and your catalog sync status.

  • Conversations: your shoppers' chats, the Customer question map, and the Unanswered tab, which lists product questions the AI couldn't answer so you know what to add.

  • AI Setup: your business description, keywords, knowledge files, web pages and conversation rules.

  • Widget: the Product Detail Page expert name and hook question, the Olvio Advisor's starter chips and conversation axes (Growth and Scale), and the Contact block for your contact page.

  • Questions: replace the suggested questions on any product with your own.

  • Appearance: the widget's avatar, colors, font, corner radius, custom CSS, add to cart in chat and languages.

  • API Key: your Anthropic API key and the Claude model Olvio uses.

  • Plans: choose or change your plan.

What Olvio doesn't do

Olvio answers questions about your products and your store. It can't look up orders or delivery status, and it's instructed to refer shoppers to your support for those questions.

Shoppers don't create an account or sign in to use Olvio. The widget never asks for a name, email address, phone number or address, and the AI is instructed not to ask for personal information. If a shopper types an email address, phone number or card number anyway, Olvio replaces it with a placeholder before the message is saved or sent to Anthropic. See What data Olvio collects about your shoppers.

Get started

Follow these steps in order:

  1. Install Olvio from the Shopify App Store. See Install Olvio on your Shopify store.

  2. Choose a plan on the Plans page. Your first subscription starts with a 14-day free trial. See Subscribe to a plan and start your free trial.

  3. On the API Key page, add your Anthropic API key and pick a Claude model: Claude Haiku 4.5 (marked recommended), Claude Sonnet 5 or Claude Opus 5. See Connect your Anthropic (Claude) API key.

  4. Fill in the AI Setup page so answers match your brand. See Configure your AI Setup.

  5. Adjust the widget's look on the Appearance page.

  6. Add the Olvio — Product page block to your product template in the Shopify theme editor. This requires an Online Store 2.0 theme. See Add the Olvio widget to your product pages.

  7. Open a product page on your storefront and ask a question. See Test Olvio on your storefront.

Once you've chosen a plan, the Get Olvio ready for your first customer card on your Dashboard tracks steps 3 to 6. It hides once they're all done, or when you click Hide. The block step is checked off the first time the widget loads on a storefront page for an active product Olvio has already imported, so open a product page after adding the block. See Your setup guide: get Olvio ready for your first customer.
